ST. PETER, Minn. – No. 15 Gustavus Adolphus snapped Saint John's six-game win streak with two rebound goals, unanswered, in a 2-1 victory over the Johnnies on Friday, Jan. 31, in St. Peter.
Freshman defenseman
Brady Riesgraf (Chaska, Minn.) gave the Johnnies (11-7, 5-4 MIAC) a 1-0 lead on a blistering slap shot, top shelf, with 10:16 left in the first period. Freshman forward
Kevin Becker (Roseville, Minn.) was credited with the assist, his 10th point of the season (3g/7a).
Tyler Lapic tied the game at 1-1 for Gustavus (12-4-3, 9-1-1 MIAC) only 1:02 into the second period and Adam Smyth made it 2-1 with another rebound goal, his 10th of the season, 4:24 into the third period.
Sophomore goaltender
Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 21 saves in the loss, his first since Dec. 6 at Augsburg (3-1).
GAC took control of the third period with a 12-2 shot advantage before SJU, which went 0-for-4 on the power play, registered the final eight shots on goal to finish with a 24-23 edge for the game.
The Johnnies return home to host Gustavus for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
