Carleton Hosts SJU Saturday in the Pool

The Saint John's swimming and diving team returns to competition with a 1 p.m. dual meet at Carleton this Saturday, Jan. 11, in Northfield. - Live Results

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's won seven of the 13 events but fell to St. Thomas 130-111 in a dual meet the last time out Dec. 14 in Collegeville. Sophomore Paul Knaak (Forest Lake, Minn./Stillwater Area) won the 50- (22.14) and 100-yard (48.87) freestyles, while freshman Jose Alvarez (North Bay Village, Fla./Belen Jesuit) took first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.45) and 500-yard freestyle (5:00.93). Sophomore Braden McCormack (Rosemount, Minn.) touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (56.21).

Junior Joe Duxbury (Long Lake, Orono, Minn.) claimed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.89) and 100-yard butterfly (55.29), and classmate Nolan Bauer (Helena, Mont.) did the same in the 500- (5:06.77) and 1,000-yard (10:34.75) freestyles. Freshman Andrew Urness (Rosemount, Minn.) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.27) and sophomore Alex Ingulsrud (Fargo, N.D./Davies) took third, 0.41 behind McCormack in the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Justin Wollin (Eagan, Minn.) took second in both the 1- (205.40) and 3-meter (201.70) dives.

SJU won both relays, the 200-yard freestyle (1:27.89; Knaak, Kenny Bergman, Sam Konsor, Connor Triggs) and the 200-yard medley (1:38.26; Alvarez, Duxbury, McCormack, Triggs).

LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP: SJU won seven events in a 148-142 dual win over Carleton last Jan. 12 (2013) in Collegeville. All six individual wins were claimed by SJU freshmen. Sophomore Matthew McCormack (Rosemount, Minn.) bested his twin brother, Braden, by 0.05 seconds to go 1-2 in the 100-yard backstroke. Braden later won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.37).
