Coborn Sets Assist Record, Two-Goal Lead Slips Away in 3-2 Loss

DECORAH, Iowa – Nationally-ranked Luther (Iowa) scored three unanswered goals to defeat Saint John's 3-2 on Sunday, Sept. 8, in Decorah, Iowa.

Senior Michael Coborn (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) gave SJU (2-2 overall) a 1-0 lead on a give-and-go from classmate Matt Carson (Waconia, Minn.), his third goal of the season, 22:51 into the match.

Junior David Wee (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) made it 2-0 with his second tally of the season in the 38th minute (37:54). Coborn went up the left side, turned the corner and crossed to an open Wee in front of the net for the goal. The assist, Coborn's 30th, set a new SJU career record.

Luther (3-1 overall), ranked sixth nationally, cut the lead in half on a goal from Aaron Fargo with 4:32 left in the first half and tied it at 2-2 on the foot of Logan Martell 50 seconds after halftime.

Jon Gednalske put the Norse ahead with 5:37 left.

Wee just missed his second goal of the match when he hit the post with under 27 minutes to go in regulation.

Sophomore Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) made save saves in the loss, his first appearance of the season.

SJU travels to face Wisconsin-Platteville for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 14.
