Johnnies Win Five Events, Finish Second at Carleton Relays

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's finished second out of 10 teams at the Carleton Relays, the Johnnies' first outdoor meet of the season, on Saturday, April 20, in Northfield.

Division II Minnesota-Duluth won the meet with a total of 158 points, followed by SJU (133.5), Concordia-Moorhead (125.5) and Carleton (64.7). The Johnnies won five events outright and did not have any competitors in three events (high jump, shot put, 4x800-meter relay).

Senior Kevin Horton (Eagan, Minn.) won the 400 meters with a time of 49.45 seconds and classmate Ruairi Moynihan (Fargo, N.D./South) claimed first in the 1,500 meters (3:57.29).

Junior Taylor Nauman (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) finished first in the 400-meter hurdles (56.54) and freshman Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) won the 800 meters (1:53.6).

The Johnnies' 4x400-meter relay cruised to a five-second win with a time of 3:20.06, while the 4x100-meter relay finished second to UMD by 0.23 of a second (43.79).

Junior Duncan Secor (Stillwater, Minn.) and freshman Austin Lick (Mora, Minn.) finished third (10:25.97) and fourth (10:40.58), respectively, behind a pair of UMD runners in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Senior Tyler Martin (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) and freshman Zach Roy (Andover, Minn.), meanwhile, led Division III jumpers in second (6.34 meters) and third (6.23 meters) in the long jump. Roy led the Division III competition with a distance of 13.32 meters to finish second in the triple jump.

Sophomore Yasin Williams (East Orange, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) tied for second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.8 seconds and classmate Jake Lammi (Marine on St. Croix, Minn./Stillwater Area) finished close behind Horton in the 400 meters (50.06). Junior Alex Trujillo (Davenport, Iowa/Central) took second in the 10,000 meters (33:29.84).

The Johnnies travel to St. Paul for the Macalester Twilight at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in Macalester Stadium.
