Horton Breaks Two School Records, Johnnies Start "Outdoor" Season With Win

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's opened its outdoor season, indoors, with a 75-49 dual win over Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday, March 16, in Collegeville.

The Johnnies won nine of the 12 events and broke two school records on the afternoon. Senior Kevin Horton (Eagan, Minn.) set new SJU bests in the 60- (7.13) and 200-meter (22.49) dashes.

Junior Willie Versen (Hopkins, Minn.) finished first in the 800 meters (1:59.63) and classmate John Subialka (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) won the 1,500 meters by three seconds (4:07.47). Sophomore Jake Lammi (Marine on St. Croix, Minn./Stillwater Area) claimed first in the 400-meter dash (50.57) and junior Rob Sybrant (Shakopee, Minn.) won the shot put (13.71 meters).

Senior Tyler Martin (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) and freshman Zach Roy (Andover, Minn.) both registered a leap of 6.03 meters in the long jump and senior Brady O'Brien (Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels) won the triple jump with a mark of 13 meters, 0.01 ahead of Roy.

John Bye (60-meter hurdles, 8.84) and Josh Murrey (pole vault, 4.42 meters) won events for the Cobbers. SJU did not have a participant in the high jump.

The Johnnies return to action after spring break with the Hamline Invitational, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, in St. Paul.
