Johnnie Swimmers Claim Seven Events vs. St. Thomas

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's won seven of the 13 events but fell to St. Thomas 130-111 in a dual meet on Saturday, Dec. 14, in Collegeville.

Sophomore Paul Knaak (Forest Lake, Minn./Stillwater Area) won the 50- (22.14) and 100-yard (48.87) freestyles, while freshman Jose Alvarez (North Bay Village, Fla./Belen Jesuit) took first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.45) and 500-yard freestyle (5:00.93).

Sophomore Braden McCormack (Rosemount, Minn.) touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (56.21).

Junior Joe Duxbury (Long Lake, Orono, Minn.) claimed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.89) and 100-yard butterfly (55.29), and classmate Nolan Bauer (Helena, Mont.) did the same in the 500- (5:06.77) and 1,000-yard (10:34.75) freestyles.

Freshman Andrew Urness (Rosemount, Minn.) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.27) and sophomore Alex Ingulsrud (Fargo, N.D./Davies) took third, 0.41 behind McCormack in the 100-yard backstroke.

SJU won both relays, the 200-yard freestyle (1:27.89; Knaak, Kenny Bergman, Sam Konsor, Connor Triggs) and the 200-yard medley (1:38.26; Alvarez, Duxbury, McCormack, Triggs).

Freshman Justin Wollin (Eagan, Minn.) took second in both the 1- (205.40) and 3-meter (201.70) dives.

The Johnnies return to competition in the New Year with a 1 p.m. dual at Carleton on Saturday, Jan. 11, in Northfield.
