NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Two early goals proved to be the difference for Saint John's soccer in a 2-1 loss at Carleton in the 2013 MIAC Playoff Championship match on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Will Corcoran scored both goals for Carleton (15-2-3, 7-2-1 MIAC), the first in the 10th minute (9:53) and the second with 23:22 left in the first half.
Freshman Rocky Harmon (Hudson, Wis.) put SJU (9-7-3, 6-2-2 MIAC) on the scoreboard with his third goal of the season, unassisted, in the 73rd minute (72:25).
Senior Ryan Brutger (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) made four saves for SJU in the loss.
Carleton held a 14-6 advantage in shots, though shots on goal were even at six apiece. SJU held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Knights earn the conference's bid to the NCAA Tournament with the victory.
The playoff field is scheduled to be announced at noon on Monday, Nov. 11. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament are scheduled for Friday-Sunday, Nov. 15-17, at selected sites.
