MOORHEAD, Minn. – Two second-period goals for Saint John's proved to be the difference in a 2-1 win at Concordia-Moorhead on Friday, Jan. 18, in Moorhead.

Jordie Bancroft gave CC (8-9-1, 5-4-0 MIAC) a 1-0 lead with 1:38 left in the opening period, his ninth goal of the season. The team's leading scorer (9g/9a), Bancroft registered four shots on goal in the opening period but was held to one the rest of the game.

Junior Trent Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) tied the game for SJU (7-6-3, 2-3-2 MIAC) on the power play at 5:25 of the second period. The goal, which was Johnson's second of the season, snapped the Johnnies' 0-for-20 streak in conference play. Sophomore Wally Cossette (Maple Grove, Minn.) was credited with the lone assist.

Freshman Alex Ach (Champlin, Minn.) gave the Johnnies a 2-1 lead with his first collegiate goal and point, unassisted, with 5:42 left in the second.

Freshman Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 20 saves to improve to 6-3 on the season. The start was his first since Jan. 4 after missing last weekend's series against Gustavus Adolphus due to the flu.

SJU out-shot Concordia 28-21 in the game, 19-10 after the first period, and killed all three Cobber power plays.

The Johnnies wrap up the two-game series with a 2 p.m. puck-drop Saturday, Jan. 19, in Moorhead.
