Johnnie Soccer Cruises to 5-0 Victory

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – Saint John's exploded for four second-half goals en route to a 5-0 shutout at Crown on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Sophomore Josh Whitaker (Milwaukie, Ore.) gave SJU (2-0-2 overall) a 1-0 lead 20:57 into the match, with an assist going to junior Matt Carson (Waconia, Minn.). Whitaker tallied his second goal of the game in the 54th minute before the flood gates opened.

Sophomore Ian Scudder (Sherwood, Ore.) scored his first goal of the season at the 78:04 mark and classmate David Wee (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) added his second of the year 1:04 later. Junior Elliott Olsen (Cedar, Minn./St. Francis) was credited with the assist on Scudder's tally.

Sophomore Zane Heinselman (River Falls, Wis.) ended the scoring with his second goal in as many days, on a pass from junior Michael Coborn (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral), with 2:59 remaining in the match.

Freshman Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) made two saves to record his first win, and shutout, in his first collegiate start in net.

The Johnnies out-shot Crown (0-2-0 overall) 32-10 in the match, including an 18-1 advantage in the second half alone.

SJU wraps up its three-match weekend against Wisconsin-Superior on Sunday, Sept. 9. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Public School Stadium in Duluth.
