COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Augsburg tallied the game-winning goal with 2:36 left in regulation to defeat Saint John's 2-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 26, in Collegeville.

SJU (3-4-2, 1-2-0 MIAC) caught a bad bounce early and found itself down 1-0 with 6:54 taken off the clock. The Auggies' Danny Osip blooped a free kick from 40 yards out and freshman Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Magaret's) nearly came out of the box to catch it. The ball, however, bounced off Lebahn's hands and deflected behind him, directly to a wide open Grant Griffin.

The Johnnies tied it at 1-1 with a goal from sophomore David Wee (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake), his fourth of the young season. Classmate Ian Scudder (Sherwood, Ore.) dribbled through the heart of a physical Augsburg (7-3-1, 3-1-0 MIAC) defense and unleashed a shot that was blocked, but the deflection went directly to Wee, who was all alone to the left of the goal.

The match became very physical in the second half, as the two teams combined for four yellow cards and 17 fouls after halftime (33 fouls and five yellow cards in the game).

AUG's Josh Sweeney drove a low-lying corner kick to the near post, where Chad Gilmer made a diving header to the back of the net for the game-winning tally.

Lebahn made six saves in the loss, as shots were nearly even at 16-15 in favor of Augsburg (6-6 on corner kicks).

SJU travels to take on St. Olaf, last year's MIAC Playoff Champion, for a 1 p.m. match this Saturday, Sept. 29, in Northfield.
