Young SJU Squad Wins Three Events at UST

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's claimed six top-two finishes but St. Thomas' depth was too much to overcome in a 172.5-68.5 dual loss on Saturday, Dec. 15, in St. Paul.

Sophomore Logan Arnold (Moorhead, Minn.) tied for first in the 100-yard freestyle (47.84), while freshman Evan Maxwell (Marine on St. Croix, Minn./Stillwater Area) won the 1,000-yard freestyle by 15 seconds (10:38.34) and claimed second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.37).

Freshman Braden McCormack (Rosemount, Minn.) took second in the 100-yard backstroke (54.82) and classmate Connor Reilly (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) did the same in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.14).

The Johnnies' 200-yard freestyle relay team (Arnold, Joe Duxbury, Paul Knaak, Connor Triggs) won the event with a time of 1:26.86. The 200-yard medley relay (Arnold, Duxbury, McCormack, Reilly) finished second (1:39.14).

Freshman Preston Marsh (Petersburg, Alaska), who touts the conference's best time in the 50-yard freestyle (21.34), is second in both the 100-yard breaststroke (58.45) and 100-yard freestyle (47.03) and third in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.96), did not compete.

SJU wraps up a week of training with the Citrus Classic on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the outdoor Kino Aquatic Center in Mesa, Ariz.
