Johnnies Pay St. Thomas a Visit Saturday

The Saint John's swimming and diving team travels to take on St. Thomas for a 1 p.m. dual meet Saturday, Dec. 15, in St. Paul. - Live Results

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's tallied seven top-three finishes in a 141-78 loss to St. Cloud State Dec. 7 in Collegeville. Freshman Preston Marsh (Petersburg, Alaska) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.02) and classmate Braden McCormack (Rosemount, Minn.) claimed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.60). Sophomore Logan Arnold (Moorhead, Minn.) took third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.27), while junior Connor Triggs (Edina, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) and freshman Paul Knaak (Forest Lake, Minn./Stillwater Area) went 2 (49.10)-3 (49.64) in the 100-yard freestyle. The Johnnies' 200-yard freestyle (1:26.70; Arnold, Joe Duxbury, Marsh, Triggs) and 200-yard medley relays (1:38.00; Duxbury, Marsh, McCormack, Triggs) won their respective events.

JOHNNIES vs. MIAC: The Johnnies currently boast a top-three time among MIAC participants (released Dec. 6) in five individual events one month into the 2012-13 swim season. Marsh touts the conference's best time in the 50-yard freestyle (21.34), is second in both the 100-yard breaststroke (58.45) and 100-yard freestyle (47.03) and third in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.96). McCormack is third in the 100-yard backstroke (53.27).

LAST YEAR'S DUAL: Saint John's dropped a 197-102 decision to St. Thomas last Dec. 10 (2011) in Collegeville. Josh Seaburg '12 won three events for the Johnnies: the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.78), 200-yard individual medley (2:02.35) and 500-yard freestyle (4:52.60). Wes Schlichting '12 won both the 1- (328.15) and 3-meter (307.95) dives. Jimmy Foley '12 claimed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:49.40, while classmate Ty Nimens took second in the 100- (49.39) and 200-yard (1:47.75) freestyles. Arnold finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.18).
