Saint John's hosts Morningside (Iowa) for a 6 p.m. dual meet this Friday, Nov. 16, before hosting Gustavus Adolphus and Morningside for a triangular meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Warner Palaestra Pool.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's opened its 2012-13 swimming and diving season with a second-place finish at the Hamline Invitational Nov. 3 in St. Paul. St. Thomas won the four-team event with 568 points, followed by SJU (458), Hamline (270) and Saint Mary's (235). SJU won seven events and tallied 13 top-three finishes on the day. Freshman Preston Marsh (Petersburg, Alaska) won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.57) and 100-yard freestyle (47.33), while classmates Nolan Bauer (Helena, Mont.) and Braden McCormack (Rosemount, Minn.) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.81) and 100-yard backstroke (55.12), respectively. Sophomore Logan Arnold (Moorhead, Minn.) won the 50-yard freestyle (22.08) and claimed third in the 100-yard freestyle (48.44). Junior Philip English (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:59.25) and freshman Evan Maxwell (Marine on St. Croix, Minn./Stillwater Area) claimed second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.73). Sophomore Joe Duxbury (Long Lake, Minn./Orono) placed third in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.68) and 100-yard butterfly (55.55). Freshman Ben Studer (Delano, Minn.) took third in the 1-meter dive (163.20). Arnold, Duxbury, Marsh and junior Connor Triggs (Edina, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.17), while Arnold, Duxbury, Marsh and McCormack won the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.31).
A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS: Morningside finished third out of four teams at its own invitational Nov. 10. Gustavus Adolphus won with 833 points, followed by Iowa Central (806), Morningside (697) and Iowa Lakes (600).Ben Kurz topped a field of 20 swimmers to win the men's 200-yard freestyle (1:50.53) and claimed second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.54). The Mustangs had a runner-up finish from Cole Malin 200-yard individual medley (2:09.96).
A LOOK AT THE GUSTIES: Gustavus recorded its first meet victory of the season at the Mustang Invitational mentioned above. Top performers included David Kramer, Dante Colucci and Ross Larson. Kramer swam to a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley after touching the wall in 2:09.81. He also added a third-place mark in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.20). Colucci added another event win by taking the 100-yard backstroke (58.73), while Larson rounded out the group with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly (56.65). Colucci, Larson, Ben Miller and Jens Thomsen teamed up to finish third in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:43.15.
