A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Seven different Johnnies recorded a point as Saint John's (8-5-3, 5-2-1 MIAC) earned a 3-0 shutout at Saint Mary's Oct. 20 in Winona. Junior Michael Coborn's (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) fourth goal of the season, 5:57 into the match, proved to be the game-winning tally. Sophomores Zane Heinselman (River Falls, Wis.) and David Wee (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) were credited with the assists for SJU. The goal was Coborn's 20th of his collegiate career. Junior Matt Carson (Waconia, Minn.) tallied his second goal of the year at the 38:40 mark, with assists going to sophomores Nicholas DeVetter (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) and Ian Scudder (Sherwood, Ore.). Sophomore Josh Whitaker (Milwaukie, Ore.) ended the scoring 2:10 into the second with his third goal of the season, on an assist from Scudder. Scudder now has 15 points (6g/3a) in his last four matches, all in conference play. Freshman Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) made four saves to earn his third shutout and improve to 5-4-1 on the year (4-2-1 MIAC).
A LOOK AT THE PIPERS: Hamline (2-12-2, 0-9-0 MIAC) suffered its ninth consecutive loss, 5-0, to Augsburg Oct. 20. The Pipers bring a 13-game road losing streak, going back to the 2010 season, to Collegeville Tuesday. Junior Greg Northrop leads the Pipers in both goals (4) and points (9), while senior Sam Slagle has a team-leading three assists. Senior Eric Feil is 2-10-2 with a 2.22 GAA in net.
LAST FALL: Three second-half goals paced Hamline to a 4-1 win over SJU last Oct. 25 in St. Paul. Midhat Mujic gave Hamline a 1-0 lead with 3:37 left in the first half. Michael Murphy extended the Pipers' lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals 8:01 apart in the 61st and 69th minutes, respectively. Coborn put SJU on the scoreboard with his ninth goal of the season. Kamal Abda ended the scoring with a corner-kick goal with 47 seconds remaining. Mike Sikich '12 made four saves in the loss, his first of the season (4-1).
SERIES HISTORY: Saint John's leads the series with a 27-4-2 record since 1981, including a 14-1-1 record in Collegeville (outscoring the Pipers 43-6 in the 16 matches at SJU). The series, however, is tied 4-4 in the last eight matches.
