COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's amassed 553 yards of offense, 516 through the first three quarters, in a 51-14 win over Carleton on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Collegeville.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for SJU (3-4, 1-4 MIAC), its first since 1930, and improved the Johnnies' series record to 30-0 all-time against Carleton (3-3, 1-3 MIAC).

Freshman quarterback Nick Martin (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) was 14 of 17 passing for 301 yards and two touchdowns and added 38 yards and three more touchdowns on the ground in the first half alone as SJU built a 37-0 halftime lead. SJU entered the fourth quarter with a 516-65 advantage in total offense (21-4 in first downs) before the Knights added a pair of touchdowns to avoid the shutout.

Sophomore wide receiver Rob Voshell (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) caught four passes for 124 yards, including gains of 43 and 63 yards, in the first half to record his first collegiate 100-yard game. The Johnnies collected eight plays of 20 yards or more in the game.

Junior Colin Moynihan (Edina, Minn.) led the SJU rushing attack with 75 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Junior Sean Tillman (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) and sophomore Bruce London (Nisswa, Minn./Brainerd) led the Johnnies with six tackles, while senior Connor Grill (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) added a pair of sacks.

Chase Gottschalk led the Knights with 92 yards on five catches, including a 29-yard touchdown reception. John Baker added 53 yards on 16 carries and Nathan Potter, Carleton's third quarterback of the game, finished three of three for 69 yards passing. Mike Elder totaled 18 tackles (11 solo) on the day.

With the win, SJU head coach John Gagliardi improves to 487-137-11 (.776) in 64 seasons overall and 463-131-10 (.775) in 60 seasons at SJU.

The Johnnies play host to Gustavus Adolphus for Family Weekend and the home finale, following next week's bye, on Saturday, Oct. 27. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.

Notes:  SJU's second quarter safety, due to a high snap from center on a Carleton punt, was the first for the Johnnies since Oct. 20, 2007 (at Hamline)…Martin ended the game 15 of 18 passing for 309 yards and two touchdowns, the first 300-yard passing game recorded by a freshman in SJU history…the Knights' block of junior Jimmie Mattson's 37-yard field-goal attempt in the second quarter was the first for Mattson in 24 tries as a Johnnie.
