SJU Posts 155-143 Win Over Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's defeated Carleton 155-143 in dual-meet competition on Saturday, Jan. 14, in Northfield.

The Johnnies won seven of the 16 events, but finished second in the other eight events, including six in which SJU claimed both second and third.

Senior Josh Seaburg (Moorhead, Minn.) claimed wins in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.37), 200-yard individual medley (2:04.31) and 500-yard freestyle (4:55.94).

Seniors Wes Schlichting (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) and Kelley Burg (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart) claimed first and second in the 1- (311.10, 218.60) and 3-meter dives (252.55, 204.55), respectively.

Freshman Connor Franta (La Crescent, Minn.) won both the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.60) and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:42.77).

SJU returns home to prepare for a pair of events next weekend, beginning with a dual against NCAA Division II St. Cloud State on Friday, Jan. 20. The meet is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Halenbeck Hall Pool in St. Cloud. The Johnnies then travel to compete at the St. Thomas Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21, in St. Paul.
