MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Augsburg took advantage of its fast-track surface under the lights to post a 3-0 win over Saint John's on Tuesday, Sept. 27, in Minneapolis.
The Auggies (7-0-1, 4-0-0 MIAC), ranked No. 23 in the latest D3kicks.com poll, took an early 1-0 lead 7:36 into the match and added two more in the 38th and 41st minutes, respectively.
Sophomore Ryan Brutger (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) made seven saves in the loss for SJU (4-5, 0-4 MIAC).
Junior Tobias Linbro (Nykvarn, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gymnasium), sophomore Matt Carson (Waconia, Minn.) and freshman Jake Herr (Centerville, Minn./Totino-Grace) tallied one shot-on-goal each.
The Johnnies return home to host St. Olaf (8-1-1, 2-0-1 MIAC) this Saturday, Oct. 1. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. at George Durenberger Field in Collegeville. The Oles were ranked No. 18 in the latest D3kicks.com poll and received votes in today's National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) national poll. St. Olaf was ranked fourth in the NSCAA North region rankings, behind Gustavus Adolphus (third), and ahead of Augsburg (fifth).
