A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's opened MIAC play this past Wednesday with a 1-0 loss to last year's defending MIAC Champion Macalester. The Scots scored the game's lone goal 44 seconds into the second-half to take the lead. Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Brutger (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) made four saves in the loss for SJU. Including Wednesday's match at Mac, SJU is scheduled to play four of last year's top five MIAC teams to open the conference schedule, three of which are on the road.
A LOOK AT THE KNIGHTS: Carleton is 0-2-1 in its last three matches since posting a 2-1 win at Aurora (Ill.) in the season opener. The Knights' most recent match was a 2-0 loss at home to Colorado College this past Sunday. The Knights had 18 total shots but failed to get a shot to drop in net. Senior forwards Miles Silbert and Tim Wills lead the team with three points (1g/1a) apiece, while sophomore goalkeeper James Neher has a 1.40 GAA and a .625 save percentage in all 384:38 so far this season.
THE LAST MEETING: The Knights scored three consecutive goals en route to a 3-1 win over the host Johnnies last October. Silbert and Wills scored back-to-back goals within the first 18 minutes of the match. The Knights increased their lead to 3-0 in the 57th minute. Sophomore Joe Laue (St. Louis Park, Minn./Holy Angels) scored within the last four minutes to deny a Carleton shutout. Senior Mike Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) made four saves in net. Since 1983, the Johnnies lead the all-time series 20-7-1, including a 9-5-0 mark against the Knights in Northfield. The last win for SJU in the series, however, was in 2006 (3-1 in Collegeville).
