CABLE, Wis. – Saint John's University freshman Kellen Witschen (Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East) led the Johnnies with a seventh-place finish out of 1,514 skiers at the annual American Birkebeiner held Saturday, Feb. 26, at Telemark Lodge near Cable, Wis.

Witschen completed the 54k race with a time of 2:37.33. Seniors Adam Johnson (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) and Jared Sundstrom (Proctor, Minn.) followed in 10th (2:38.59) and 11th (2:41.06), respectively. Freshman Nate Engel (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) finished 22nd (2:47.41), while sophomore Ethan Evenson (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale) claimed 24th (2:48.00).

The race concludes SJU's 2011 season.
