A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: The Johnnies played well but settled for a tie and a one-goal loss in a pair of hard-fought games to begin the season last weekend. SJU tallied two third-period goals to tie Gustavus Adolphus 3-3 on Friday night before suffering a 2-1 loss to Concordia-Moorhead Sunday afternoon. Senior Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.) had a stellar weekend, posting a 2.42 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Junior forward, and captain, Michael Palmiscno (East Grand Forks, Minn.) and sophomore defenseman Trent Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) boast two points each. Freshmen Wally Cossette (Maple Grove, Minn.), Phil Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) and Buzz Tryggeseth (Buffalo, Minn.) tallied their first collegiate points last weekend.
A LOOK AT THE BLUE DEVILS: Wisconsin-Stout started the season with a bang, tallying five or more goals in three consecutive wins over Concordia (Wis.), Marian (Wis.) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire, respectively. The Blue Devils dropped a close 3-2 game to the Blugolds in their most recent game Oct. 29. Stout hosts Concordia-Moorhead tonight before hosting the Johnnies Saturday, its sixth straight home game to start the season. Senior Branden Gay (4g/4a) and sophomore Kevin O'Donnell (2g/6a) share the team-lead with eight points apiece. Junior goaltender Tom Lescovich is 3-1 with a 2.11 GAA and a .928 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY: The Johnnies are 9-5 all-time against Stout, including a 5-1 record in Menomonie, Wis. SJU won the last meeting in Menomonie, 4-3 on Jan. 11, 2008.
