ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's amassed a 55-22 advantage in shots but settled for a 2-2 tie with Concordia (Wis.) on Saturday, Nov. 26, in St. Cloud.
The Johnnies (3-4-2, 1-3-0 MIAC) posted a 44-12 edge in shots after the first period and won 46 of the game's 66 faceoffs.
The Falcons found the scoreboard first with a power-play goal from Tanner Tryggestad with 2:21 remaining in the first period.
Senior Nick Roscoe (Eau Claire, Wis.) tied the game 21 seconds into the second period with his first goal of the season and second of his career. Junior Jascha Pettit (Wadena, Minn.) assisted on the scoring play for SJU.
Russell Johnson gave the lead back to CUW (1-7-2, 1-4-1 MCHA) with a power-play goal 8:58 into the third.
Senior Conor Rooney (Stillwater, Minn.) tied the game at 2-2 with a power-play goal of his own, his fifth tally of the season, with 1:45 left. Sophomores Justin Hochsprung (Alexandria, Minn.) and Trent Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) earned the assists. The goal capped a furious surge in which SJU outshot the Falcons 23-5 in the final period.
SJU produced nine shots-on goal and a number of scoring chances in overtime but could not find the back of the net.
Junior J.D. Wells (Anoka, Minn.) made 13 saves in the first two periods before he was relieved by senior Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.). Civello made seven stops to earn credit for the tie.
Concordia's Josh Lehr made 53 saves. All four of the Falcons' goals this weekend came on the power play.
The Johnnies return to action in two weeks as they play host to nationally-ranked Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) for “Pack the MAC” night on Friday, Dec. 9. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Municipal Athletic Complex (MAC) in St. Cloud.
