SJU Travels to Moorhead Saturday

The Saint John's soccer team (8-7, 3-6 MIAC) travels to face Concordia (5-9-3, 1-6-2 MIAC) this Saturday, Oct. 29. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Moorhead. – Live Stats

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Three second-half goals paced Hamline to a 4-1 win over Saint John's this past Tuesday in St. Paul. Midhat Mujic gave Hamline a 1-0 lead with 3:37 left in the first half. Michael Murphy extended the Pipers' lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals 8:01 apart in the 61st and 69th minutes, respectively. Sophomore Michael Coborn (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) put SJU on the scoreboard with his ninth goal of the season. Sophomore Matt Carson (Waconia, Minn.) assisted on the scoring play. Kamal Abda ended the scoring with a corner-kick goal with 47 seconds remaining. Senior Mike Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) made four saves in the loss, his first of the season (4-1).

A LOOK AT THE COBBERS: Concordia and Augsburg played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime this past Wednesday in Minneapolis. The Cobbers were outshot 33-9, including a 13-3 advantage on goal. Riley McGlynn leads the Cobbers in points with 17 (6g/5a), nine ahead of the next leading scorer, Jared Rice, who has eight (3g/2a).  McGlynn also has a team leading 73 shots out of the team total of 185. Peter Runquist has a 5-9-1 record in 14 starts with a 1.67 GAA and a .796 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY: The Johnnies are 15-7-1 against Concordia since 1987, including a 9-1-1 record in Moorhead.

LAST YEAR'S MEETING: Michael Coborn's sixth goal of the season, and fifth in the past two matches, gave the host Johnnies a 2-1 overtime win over the Cobbers last Oct. 30 in Collegeville. Coborn gave SJU a 1-0 lead with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. A.J. Sollom '11 dribbled through the Cobber defense and found Coborn to his left, who then beat the goaltender to the far corner. The Cobbers tied the game at 1-1 on a goal from Matt Glogoza with less than two minutes left in the first half.  Coborn tallied the game-winning goal just 2:10 into overtime. Sollom carried the ball up the right side and passed it across to Coborn, who, like his previous goal, entered the box and beat the goaltender to the far corner. Matt Anderson '11 made five saves to earn the victory in his final collegiate match.
