ASHWAUBENON, Wis. – Top-ranked St. Norbert (Wis.) exploded out of a 1-0 lead with five goals in the third period to defeat Saint John's 6-0 on Friday, Jan. 7.
The Green Knights (12-2, 7-1 NCHA) took an early 1-0 lead with an SJU own-goal 4:11 into the contest. Alain Joanette took a slap shot at the circle and the puck deflected off the stick of junior Nick Roscoe (Eau Claire, Wis.) over the shoulder of sophomore #J.D. Wells# (Coon Rapids, Minn.). SNC outshot SJU (3-11, 2-4 MIAC) 13-2 in the first period.
Following a scoreless second period, Joanette tallied his second goal of the game 2:06 into the third. The home team then added four more goals in a span of 8:23 to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
Wells made 33 saves in his second career start. SJU was 0-for-3 on the power play, including a 57-second 5-on-3 power play halfway thru the second period.
The Johnnies travel to face Wisconsin-Stevens Point for a 7 p.m. game Saturday, Jan. 8, in Stevens Point, Wis.
