Johnnies Fall to Gustavus, 5-1

ST. PETER, Minn. – No. 15 Gustavus Adolphus scored the game's first five goals to defeat Saint John's 5-1 on Friday, Jan. 21, in St. Peter.

GAC (11-5-2, 5-2-2 MIAC) took a 1-0 lead after the first period and added three more goals in the second and another in the third.

Sophomore Michael Palmiscno (East Grand Forks, Minn.) avoided the shutout with a power-play goal at the 17:43 mark of the third period. Senior Brent Brodersen (Shakopee, Minn.) and Joe Harren (Warroad, Minn.) were credited with the assists.

Sophomore #J.D. Wells# (Coon Rapids, Minn.) made 14 saves in the loss, while junior Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.) made eight saves in the final 25:01 minutes in net.

The Gusties held a 27-23 advantage in shots on goal, despite a 9-6 edge by SJU in the third period. Both teams were 1-for-4 on the power play.

The Johnnies (3-13, 2-5 MIAC) return home to host the Gusties at 2 p.m. Saturday at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
