Three-Goal Second Period Gives SJU a Home Win

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's erased a 1-0 deficit with three goals in the second period to defeat Bethel 3-2 in a non-conference game Wednesday, Dec. 8, in St. Cloud.

The Johnnies (3-10, 2-4 MIAC) outshot Bethel 32-17 in the game, including a 13-3 advantage in the second frame.

Josh Simi gave the Royals (2-7-2, 2-4-0 MIAC) a 1-0 lead with 2:45 left in the first period.

Sophomore Michael Palmiscno (East Grand Forks, Minn.) tied the game 5:05 into the second, with assists going to sophomore Joe Harren (Warroad, Minn.) and freshman Justin Brausen (Little Canada, Minn.). 

Harren gave SJU a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal, his sixth goal of the season, at the 16:22 mark. Palmiscno and senior Grant Ellena (Coon Rapids, Minn.) collected the assists.

Junior Conor Rooney (Stillwater, Minn.) padded the lead to 3-1 with 1:17 left in the second period. Sophomore Tobias Linbro (Nykvarn, Sweden) and senior Mike Wallgren (Oakdale, Minn.) assisted on the scoring play for SJU.

Bethel's Garret Windle cut it to 3-2 with 6:43 left in the game, but sophomore #J.D. Wells# (Coon Rapids, Minn.) held off a number of scoring chances late in the game to finish with 15 saves and earn the win in his first collegiate start.

The Johnnies return to action Friday, Jan. 7, at nationally-ranked St. Norbert, Wis. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon, Wis.
