ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's earned its second consecutive MIAC road win with a 2-1 decision at St. Thomas on Saturday, Nov. 20.
Following a scoreless first period, senior
Grant Ellena (Coon Rapids, Minn.) gave SJU (2-6, 2-2 MIAC) a 1-0 lead 1:06 into the second period. Junior
Conor Rooney (Stillwater, Minn.) assisted on the scoring play.
Sophomore
Tobias Linbro (Nykvarn, Sweden) increased the Johnnies' lead to 2-0 5:36 into the third period, with assists going to Rooney and senior
Mike Wallgren (Oakdale, Minn.).
Mac Williams cut the deficit to 2-1 on a four-on-four tally less than five minutes later.
Junior
Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.) made 29 saves to improve his record to 2-5 on the young season.
Both teams combined for 0-for-11 on the power play, including a 0-for-8 performance for the host Tommies (5-3, 3-1 MIAC).
The Johnnies travel to compete at the PrimeLink Shootout next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26-27, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. SJU is scheduled to face the host team, No. 13 Plattsburgh, at 6 p.m. Friday. The Johnnies will then play either No. 1 Norwich (Vt.) or No. 4 Middlebury (Vt.) Saturday, pending Friday's results.
