Power-Play Frustration Continues in 4-1 Loss

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Thomas scored four straight goals enroute to a 4-1 win over Saint John's in front of an announced crowd of 1,543 on Friday, Nov. 19.

The special-teams anguish continued for SJU (1-6, 1-2 MIAC), which allowed two power-play goals and a shorthanded tally to the Tommies (5-2, 3-0 MIAC). On the flipside, SJU mustered only five shots on eight (0-for-8) power-play opportunities. 

UST gained a 2-0 lead with a power-play and shorthanded goal 50 seconds apart late in the first period. Riley Horgan added two more goals in the second period to expand the visitors' lead to 4-0.

Sophomore Michael Palmiscno (East Grand Forks, Minn.) put the Johnnies on the scoreboard with his second goal of the season 3:20 into the third period. Senior Grant Ellena (Coon Rapids, Minn.) was credited with the assist. 

Junior Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.) made 21 saves thru the first two periods, while sophomore Adam Andersson (Pixbo, Sweden) made two stops in the game's final 20 minutes.

UST held a 27-23 advantage in shots despite the Johnnies' 10-2 barrage in the third period. The Johnnies clanked two off the pipe in the contest.

SJU travels to face St. Thomas for a 7 p.m. puck-drop Saturday, Nov. 20, at the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights.
