Balder's Late Goal Gives SJU a 1-1 Tie

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Saint John's University freshman Joe Balder's (Stillwater, Minn.) first career goal, a game-tying tally with 11 seconds left in regulation, gave the Johnnies a 1-1 tie at Wisconsin-Superior on Sunday, Oct. 10.

Following a scoreless first half, the Yellowjackets' Thomas Shuldheisz scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season 1:55 into the second frame to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

Senior defender Austin Neuburger (Millstone, N.J./Allentown) dropped a deadball kick near the goal, where Balder exited a scrum and nailed a shot to the far corner to tie the match.

Senior Matt Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made two saves in the first half before being relieved by freshman Ryan Brutger (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo), who allowed one goal and tallied six saves.  

The Johnnies (3-4-4, 2-2-2 MIAC) return to conference action this Saturday, Oct. 16, at Bethel. The match is scheduled for noon in Arden Hills.
