Johnnie Soccer Hosts St. Olaf Saturday

Saint John's (2-2, 0-1 MIAC) plays host to St. Olaf (3-0-1, 1-0 MIAC) this Saturday Sept. 19. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Durenberger Field in Collegeville.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: SJU dropped a 4-2 decision in its MIAC opener to No.14 Augsburg on Sept. 16. Junior midfielder Kevin Saunders (Hastings, Minn.) scored the first goal of his collegiate career, while junior midfielder Colin Hall (Maple Grove, Minn.) scored his fourth of the season. Junior forward #A.J. Sollom# (Roberts, Wis./River Falls) collected assisted on both goals for the Johnnies. Senior goalkeeper Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) made nine saves for SJU. Saunders' goal 3:19 into last Wednesday's match snapped the Auggies' 302-minute scoreless streak to start the 2009 season.

A LOOK AT THE OLES: The top seven scorers from last year's squad return for the Oles. St. Olaf defeated Hamline 2-1 on Sept. 16 to give head coach Kurt Anderson his 200th win with the Oles.  St. Olaf outshot Hamline (3-4, 0-1 MIAC) 11-3, but did not score until late in the second half. Junior midfielder John Zietlow leads St. Olaf in both assists (4) and points (6). Junior keeper Alex Kuehl has allowed only two goals in 380 minutes played so far this season.

THE LAST MEETING: SJU shutout St. Olaf 3-0 in last season's meeting (Sept. 27) in Northfield thanks to two goals in the first seven minutes by Brian Horst and junior Austin Neuburger (Millstone, N.J./Allentown).  Nelson made five saves in the game to record his third shutout of the season, while Kevin Friede made three stops for the Oles. The Johnnies outshot St. Olaf 19-11(3-0 on goal) and edged the Oles in corner kicks 9-3. Since 1981, Saint John's is 21-8-1 against St. Olaf, including a 10-4 record at home.
