MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Saint John's dropped a 4-2 decision at No. 14 Augsburg on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Four goals were scored, two by each team, in the first 15:10 of the match.
SJU (2-2, 0-1 MIAC) found the net first on an unassisted goal from junior midfielder Kevin Saunders (Hastings, Minn.), the first of his college career, just 3:19 into the match.
The Auggies (5-0-1, 1-0-0 MIAC) tied the game 35 seconds later on a goal by Chad Gilmer.
Junior midfielder Colin Hall (Maple Grove, Minn.) gave the Johnnies the lead once again, with his fourth goal of the season, at the 13:24 mark of the first half. Junior #A.J. Sollom# (Roberts, Wis./River Falls) assisted on both SJU goals.
Augsburg responded quickly once again, this time on a goal from Ahmed Gobana, 1:46 later. Gobana gave the Auggies their first lead of the match with his second tally of the game at 20:58.
Augsburg's Matt Bowman added an insurance goal at the 68:36 mark of the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) made nine saves for SJU.
The Johnnies play host to St. Olaf this Saturday, Sept. 19. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. at George Durenberger Field in Collegeville.
