A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: SJU won its season opener at home last Sunday, Sept. 6, with a 1-0 score against Minnesota-Morris. Junior midfielder Colin Hall (Maple Grove, Minn.) scored the game winner in the second half with assists from juniors midfielder Kevin Saunders (Hastings, Minn.) and #J.C. Artavia# (White Bear Lake, Minn.). Senior goalkeeper Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) made seven saves to earn his first shutout of the season and the sixth of his career. Last fall, the Johnnies finished 2-2-0 against Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) schools.
A LOOK AT WARTBURG: Wartburg has had a strong start to the season with a 2-0-1 record against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) schools. Wartburg returns its senior All-American goalkeeper, Trent Michael, who already has three shutouts on the year. The Knights cruised past Carleton with a 3-0 win in their season opener, then tied Augsburg (0-0) and defeated Macalester (1-0). - Wartburg Soccer
THE LAST MEETING: The Johnnies defeated Wartburg 2-0 in its season opener last year. Wartburg goalkeeper Trent Michael allowed goals from current-juniors A.J. Sollom (River Falls, Wis.) and Nelson Martinez (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) and made seven saves. Johnnie goalkeeper Luke Nelson recorded 10 saves in the shutout.
A LOOK AT DUBUQUE: The University of Dubuque enters this weekend with an unbeaten 3-0-1 record on the year. Dubuque started the season with three consecutive shutouts over Illinois College (2-0), Grinnell (2-0) and Rockford (3-0) before tying Clarke 1-1 on Sept. 9. This weekend's contest is the first meeting between Saint John's and Dubuque. - Dubuque Soccer
