ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Saint John's University assistant football coach Dean Taylor was named the new head coach at St. Cloud Cathedral High School Wednesday, July 1.
Taylor completed his eighth season as an offensive assistant with the Johnnies in 2008. He compiled a 186-84 career record in 34 seasons as a head football coach at the high school level. Taylor led Sartell High School to nine conference championships and 10 state tournament appearances, including the Class A State Championship in 1994 and a runner-up finish in 1990 (Class A) and 1976 (Class C).
Taylor was selected as Conference Coach of the Year nine times and District Coach of the Year twice. He was named the Class A Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1994 and was inducted into the Minnesota State Coaches Association Hall of Fame in November 2003.
Current assistant coach Gary Fasching was head coach at St. Cloud Cathedral High School from 1986-95. During that time, Fasching led the Crusaders to the state Class B title in 1992 and 1993.
