NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's rode a 12-0 run that lasted nearly 10 minutes in the second half to defeat St. Olaf 70-58 Wednesday, Feb. 4 in Northfield.
Sophomore wing Aaron Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season and first since Jan. 5, which, coincidentally, was against St. Olaf.
Sophomore Sam Blank (Rollingstone, Minn./Winona Cotter), sophomore Chris Schwartz (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) and freshman Aaron Barmore (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) recorded 10 points apiece for SJU (11-9, 9-6 MIAC).
Alfred Jaryan led the Oles (8-12, 5-10 MIAC), who shot just 39.2 percent from the floor, with 14 points.
With the win, SJU head coach Jim Smith is now four wins shy of 700 with a 696-484 career record in 45 seasons.
The Johnnies play host to Concordia-Moorhead or a 3 p.m. tip-off this Saturday, Feb. 7 at Sexton Arena in Collegeville.
