ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's ended its season with a 5-4 loss to Saint Mary's on Sunday, Feb. 22, in St. Cloud. The Johnnies outshot the Cardinals 45-20 in the game, including a 36-12 advantage in the final two periods, but allowed four goals on just 14 shots thru the first two periods.
Sean Geiger gave SMU an early 1-0 lead with his first of two first-period goals four minutes into the game.

Pat Connelly (Birchwood, Minn.) tied the game a minute later with assists going to junior
Gabriel Harren (Warroad, Minn.) and freshman
Jeff Lesmeister (Anoka, Minn.).
The Cardinals (4-20-1, 3-12-1 MIAC) ended the first period with a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Geiger and Jeff Miller.
A.J. Woodward extended the lead to 4-1 with a tally four minutes into the second frame.
Senior
Jake Hipp (Bismarck, N.D.) finally stopped the bleeding with his team-best 12th goal of the season at the 11:19 mark of the second period to make it 4-2.
Nick Carlson scored what proved to be the game winner on the power play at the 13:42 mark of the third, before SJU put together a rally with goals from Harren and senior
Brian Baker (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) 1:07 apart to make it 5-4 with under three minutes left in regulation.
SJU (10-14-1, 7-8-1 MIAC) pulled senior goaltender
Vince Wheeler (Clearwater, Minn.) for an extra skater during the final 1:10 of play, but could not tie the game.
SMU goaltender Karac Davis made 41 saves as the Johnnies were 0-for-5 on the power play. The Cardinals were 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
