COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University clinched its 18th trip to the MIAC playoffs with a 63-50 win over Augsburg Wednesday, Feb. 11 in Collegeville. With the win, SJU head coach Jim Smith is now two wins shy of 700 for his career with a 698-484 record in 45 seasons, all in Collegeville.

Freshman point guard Andy Burns (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) led the Johnnies (13-9, 11-6 MIAC) with 12 points, six of which came from the foul line. Sophomore post Aaron Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) ended the night four assists shy of a triple double with 10 points, 14 rebounds and six assists for his third consecutive double-double and seventh of the season. Freshman wing Aaron Barmore (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) and sophomore wing Chris Schwartz (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) added 10 points apiece for the Johnnies, who won their sixth in a row.

Augsburg's David Olson led all scorers with 14 points, while Jon Cassens added 11 points and five assists.

SJU outrebounded the Auggies (13-9, 11-6 MIAC) 36-31 in the contest; a far cry from the 48-39 advantage the Johnnies surrendered in Augsburg's 68-51 win on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis.

Both teams combined for 30 turnovers in the game. The Johnnies, however, held a 23-8 scoring advantage off the Auggies' 16 turnovers.

SJU travels to face Hamline for a 3 p.m. tip-off this Saturday, Feb. 14 at Hutton Arena in St. Paul.
