Auggies Slip By SJU, 3-2

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Augsburg edged Saint John's 3-2 on Friday, Dec. 4, in St. Cloud.

The Auggies (5-3-1, 1-1-1 MIAC) took an early 1-0 lead 5:30 into the game.

Senior Karl Gilbert (Hermantown, Minn.) tied the game for SJU (4-6-1, 1-4-0 MIAC) with a power-play goal at the 14:20 mark of the first period. Junior Brent Brodersen (Shakopee, Minn.) and sophomore Grant Ellena (Coon Rapids, Minn.) assisted on the scoring play.

Augsburg answered, however, 1:38 later to regain the lead at 2-1. The Auggies added a power-play goal of their own 13:49 into the second frame to build a 3-1 lead.

Gilbert cut the deficit to 3-2 with his second goal of the game, and eighth of the season, at the 11:37 mark of the final period. Seniors Gabriel Harren (Warroad, Minn.) and Chris Murray (Chanhassen, Minn.) were credited with the assists.

Sophomore Tony Civello (Shoreview, Minn.) made 33 saves in the loss.

The Johnnies travel to face the Auggies for a 7:05 game on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Augsburg Ice Arena in Minneapolis.
