SJU Swimming and Diving Drops Close Dual

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's posted six individual wins but fell to St. Thomas 176-143 on Saturday, Dec. 12, in Collegeville. Each team recorded top-two finishes in 15 of the 16 events.

Sophomore Jesse Otis (West Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) won both the 100- (1:01.38) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.73), while fellow sophomore Ty Nimens (Crookston, Minn.) took first-place honors in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.07).

Junior Michael Williams (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Nimens went 1-2 in the 100-yard freestyle, and sophomore Jimmy Foley (Moorhead, Minn.) claimed first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.62).

Junior Marcus Rien (Richmond, Minn./Rocori) won the 1-meter dive (246.05), while sophomore Wes Schlichting (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) won the 3-meter with 238 points.

The Johnnies return to action Saturday, Jan. 9, by hosting the CSB/SJU Winter Invitational. The meet is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville.
