Johnnies End Non-Conference Schedule in Style With 79-71 Win

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Four starters scored 14 or points or more as Saint John's defeated No. 24 Wis.-Oshkosh 79-71 on Saturday, Nov. 28, in Oshkosh, Wis.

Junior Aaron Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) scored a season-high 18 points to go along with his 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the young season. #Junior Chris Schwartz# (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) followed with 17 points, while sophomores Aaron Barmore (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) and Andy Burns (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) added 15 and 14 points, respectively.

D.J. Marsh, a preseason All-America candidate, led all scorers with 28 points to lead the Titans (2-3, 0-0 WIAC).

Trailing 48-37, Oshkosh went on a 14-0 run to take a 51-48 lead with 11:13 left. SJU responded, however. Down 58-57, the Johnnies scored 11 of the next 13 points to take a 68-60 lead with 1:58 remaining. SJU then made 11 free throws in the final 1:23 of play to seal the victory (18-for-22 in the second half alone). The Johnnies shot 85.2 percent (23-27) from the charity stripe in the contest.

SJU (3-2, 0-0 MIAC) shot 53.2 percent from the field, including 57.9 percent in the second half. 

The Johnnies begin MIAC play by hosting Bethel this Wednesday, Dec. 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Sexton Arena in Collegeville.
