A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (5-9-2, 1-6-1 MIAC) lost two tough matches to Saint Mary's and Carthage (Wis.) this past weekend. The Johnnies fell to Carthage 1-0 in their final home game of the season Sunday, Oct. 25. Junior Matt Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) had nine saves in the loss. The Johnnies took their match with Saint Mary's to double overtime on Saturday, Oct. 24, before falling again, 1-0. Juamaine Ventor scored with 40 seconds left to give the Cardinals their first win in Collegeville since 1992. Senior Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) had four saves in the match.
A LOOK AT THE SCOTS: Macalester is currently 8-7-1 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC. The Scots have won each of their last four games at home, including a 2-1overtime win against St. Thomas on Oct. 24. The win put MAC in a four-way tie for second place in the conference. Senior forward Carson Gorecki and junior midfielder Stephen Murphy-Logue lead the team with 10 points (4g/2a) each. Junior Mark Mullaney and sophomore Matt Weyer have combined for a 1.27 GAA and an 8-7-1 record with two shutouts apiece.
THE LAST MEETING: Saint John's defeated Macalester 4-3 the last time these two met on Oct 4, 2008, in Collegeville. Down 2-0 just 20 minutes into the match, Austin Neuburger (Millstone, N.J./Allentown) cut the deficit to 2-1 before the Johnnies scored three goals to take the lead and earn their 400th victory in school history. Goalkeepers Matt Anderson and Luke Nelson each had three saves with Anderson earning his first collegiate win. – Box Score
