ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Senior forward Pat Connelly (Birchwood, Minn.) scored two third-period goals to lead Saint John's to a 2-1 win over second-place Gustavus Adolphus Saturday, Jan. 31 in St. Cloud.
Connelly ripped a wrister to the glove-side corner of the net to give SJU (6-12-1, 3-6-1 MIAC) a 1-0 lead 1:20 into the third period. Junior forward Gabriel Harren (Warroad, Minn.) was credited with an assist on the play.
Connelly tallied his second goal of the game at the 4:37 mark with an assist going to senior defenseman Clayton Rehm (Park Rapids, Minn.).
With the goalie pulled, Gustavus' David Martinson scored his 24th goal of the season with 1:07 left in the game to spoil senior goaltender Vince Wheeler's (Clearwater, Minn.) shutout. Wheeler made 21 saves to improve his record to 6-7-1 on the season.
Both teams combined for 0 of 13 on the power play. GAC (13-8, 8-4 MIAC) was 0-for-8 with the man advantage.
The Johnnies travel to face Concordia-Moorhead for two games beginning on Friday, Feb. 6.
