WINONA, Minn. – Saint John's shot nearly 60 percent from the field and scored a season-high 83 points to defeat Saint Mary's 83-62 Saturday, Jan. 31 in Winona.
Sophomore wing Aaron Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) led the Johnnies (9-9, 7-6 MIAC) with 19 points, while freshman point guard Andy Burns (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) added 17.
Freshman wing Aaron Barmore (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) added nine points, while sophomore wing Chris Schwartz (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) added eight points and seven rebounds as 11 different Johnnies recorded a point (all 15 played). SJU held a 34-14 scoring advantage in the paint.
Will Wright and Lukas Holland posted 16 and 15 points, respectively, for the Cardinals (5-13, 4-9 MIAC).
The Johnnies host Macalester for a 7:30 p.m. game Monday, Feb. 2 at Sexton Arena in Collegeville.
