ST. PETER, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus scored three unanswered goals in the third period to pull away from the visiting Johnnies 5-1 on Friday, Jan. 30 in St. Peter.

After a scoreless first period, the Gusties' David Martinson scored his 23rd goal of the season at the 13:25 mark of the second period to give GAC a 1-0 lead. 

The Johnnies responded quickly with a goal from junior Jake Koehler (Ramsey, Minn.), his first career tally, 43 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. 

Gustavus (13-7, 8-3 MIAC) answered just 17 seconds later to take back the lead 2-1 and never looked back. 

Senior goaltender Vince Wheeler (Clearwater, Minn.) made 20 saves for SJU (5-12-1, 2-6-1 MIAC) as the Johnnies outshot Gustavus 31-25 in the game.

SJU hosts the Gusties for a 2 p.m. contest Saturday, Jan. 31 at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
