Big First Half Sparks Bethel to 78-62 Win at SJU

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Bethel shot 62.1 percent in the first half to build a 14-point halftime lead enroute to a 78-62 win over Saint John's Wednesday, Jan. 21 in Collegeville. The Royals recorded 15 turnovers to the Johnnies' four, but out-rebounded SJU 47-30 in the game. SJU made just 32.9 percent of its 70 shot attempts in the contest.

Senior wing Cole Isetts (Red Wing, Minn.) led SJU (7-9, 5-6 MIAC) with 14 points off the bench. Sophomore wing/post Aaron Burtzel added 13 points and eight rebounds, while freshman wing Aaron Barmore (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) added 12 points. Freshman point guard Andy Burns (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) recorded nine points and five assists.

Mike Moberg totaled 21 points and 10 rebounds as five different Royals scored in double figures.

SJU cut the lead to 49-44 with 12:33 left in the game before Moberg, Tim Madson and Chris Vavra combined to score 25 points in a 10:37 stretch for Bethel (12-4, 7-4 MIAC), including 13 points from Moberg. Madson ended the night with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Vavra tallied 15 points off the bench.

SJU returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 24 as it hosts Carleton for a 3 p.m. game at Sexton Arena in Collegeville.
