COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's earned nine wins in a 155-143 dual defeat of Carleton Saturday, Jan. 17 in Collegeville.
Fresh off of his two wins in a dual against St. Cloud State Friday evening, freshman Jimmy Foley (Moorhead, Minn.) won both the 200- (1:48.75) and 500-yard freestyle (5:04.68) events. Fellow freshman Ty Nimens (Crookston, Minn.) won the 100- (53.89) and 200-yard butterfly (2:00.76) events, while sophomore Michael Williams (Maple Grove, Minn.) claimed wins in the 50- (22.26) and 100-yard freestyle (49.30) events.
Sophomore Andy Happe (Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.37), while sophomore Marcus Rien (Richmond, Minn./Rocori) recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 274.60 in the 1-meter dive.
The 400-yard medley relay team consisting of Happe, Nimens, Williams and freshman Jesse Otis (West Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) won with a time of 3:38.74. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Foley, Williams, senior Michael Dempsey (West Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) and sophomore Nate Schwichtenberg (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) lost to the Knights by 0:00.02.
