MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Senior forward Pat Connelly (Birchwood, Minn.) scored two goals to lead Saint John's to a 2-1 win at Augsburg Saturday, Jan. 17 in Minneapolis.
Following a scoreless first period, Connelly gave SJU a 1-0 lead 15:23 into the second frame with assists going to freshman defenseman Nick Roscoe (Eau Claire, Wis.) and freshman forward Grant Ellena (Coon Rapids, Minn.).
Augsburg tied the game at 1-1, 2:46 into the third period on a power-play goal from Chris Johnson, his 10th tally of the season.
Connelly answered with a power-play goal of his own, the eventual game winner, at the 4:00 mark. Sophomore defenseman Brent Brodersen (Shakopee, Minn.) and senior defenseman Clayton Rehm (Park Rapids, Minn.) assisted on the scoring play for SJU (5-11-1, 2-5-1 MIAC).
Senior goaltender Vince Wheeler (Clearwater, Minn.) made 28 saves to improve his record to 5-6-1 on the season.
The Johnnies converted one of their three power-play opportunities, while the Auggies (3-12-0, 3-3-0 MIAC) were just 1-for-11 with the man advantage.
SJU returns to action Friday, Jan. 30 at Gustavus Adolphus. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. in St. Peter.
