SJU Swimming and Diving Tops St. Thomas, 71-42

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Saint John's University swimming and diving team defeated St. Thomas 71-42 in a dual meet Saturday, Dec. 13 in St. Paul.

Freshman Jesse Otis (West Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) was the only Johnnie to win two events, claiming the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.31) and 500-yard freestyle (4:57.37).

Five other Johnnies won events: freshman Jimmy Foley (Moorhead, Minn.) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:29.50); senior Kevin Kubat (West Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.34); freshman Ty Nimens (Crookston, Minn.) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.71); sophomore Nate Schwichtenberg (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) in the 1-meter dive (196.65); and freshman Wes Schlichting (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) in the 3-meter dive (196.65).

The 800-yard freestyle relay team consisting of freshman Alexander Evich (Alexandria, Minn.), freshman Robert Falchi (Henderson, Nev./Coronado), sophomore Andy Happe (Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) and freshman Andrew Nicklawsky (Willmar, Minn.) won with a time of 7:45.09.

The Johnnies return to action by hosting the CSB/SJU Winter Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 10. Diving competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., followed by swimming at 12:30 p.m. at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville.
