Johnnies Fall to No. 1 St. Norbert, 5-1

DE PERE, Wis. – Top-ranked St. Norbert (Wis.) scored five power-play goals, including three during a five-minute man advantage, to defeat Saint John's 5-1 on Saturday, Nov. 8 in De Pere, Wis.

Following a five-minute major checking-from-behind penalty on sophomore defenseman James Olmscheid (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral), the Green Knights scored three power-play goals in a span of 2:29 in the first period. St. Norbert's Scott Pulak then scored two more power-play goals in the third period to take a 5-0 lead.

Junior forward Chris Murray (Chanhassen, Minn.) scored the Johnnies' lone goal at the 9:11 mark of the third period. Sophomore forward Dylan Decker (Park City, Utah) and freshman forward Grant Ellena (Coon Rapids, Minn.) assisted on the scoring play for the Johnnies. The assist was Ellena's first career point.

Senior goaltender Vince Wheeler (Clearwater, Minn.) made 20 saves in the loss for SJU, while junior Stu Van Ess (Kewaskum, Wis.) made seven stops in relief.

The defending NCAA Division III national champions were 5-for-10 on the power play, while SJU was 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

SJU (1-3, 0-0 MIAC) travels to face St. Olaf for a 7 p.m. game next Friday, Nov. 14 at the Northfield Ice Arena in Northfield.
