COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State defeated Saint John's 85-59 on the first formal game to be played on Jim and Adrienne Smith Court Saturday, Nov. 22 in Collegeville.
Sophomore wing Chris Schwartz (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) led all scorers with 19 points and added five rebounds, while sophomore wing Aaron Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) tallied 12 points and five boards. Freshman wing Aaron Barmore (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) added 10 for SJU, which shot 52.4% in the first half (43.1% in the game).
St. Cloud State's Brett Carmichael and Craig Coenen scored 13 points apiece, as five different Huskies scored in double figures.
SCSU posted a 46-27 rebounding advantage, including an 18-6 edge on the offensive glass. The Huskies (3-0, 0-0 NSIC) scored 19 second-chance points and 20 points off of 15 Johnnie turnovers in the game. Both teams combined for nine of 34 from three-point range (26.5%).
SJU (0-2, 0-0 MIAC) travels west to play two games in California during Thanksgiving break. The Johnnies play Chapman (Calif.) at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, and Occidental (Calif.) at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29. Both games will be played in Pasadena, Calif.
