COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's scored two unanswered goals in the second half, 2:37 apart, to defeat Macalester 4-3 Saturday, Oct. 4 in Collegeville.
The win was the 400th in SJU history (400-171-67 record all-time).
Macalester took a 2-0 lead just over 20 minutes into the match with goals 1:02 apart from Ryan Marshall and Stephen Murphy-Logue.
Sophomore defender Austin Neuburger cut the deficit to 2-1 three minutes later (25:15) with a header off a free kick from senior midfielder Levi Lowell (Stillwater, Minn.).
Senior midfielder Brian Horst (Stillwater, Minn.) tied the game at 2-2 4:41 into the second half with an assist going to senior defender Jason Daly (Eden Prairie, Minn.).
Macalester's Reid Usesdom gave the Scots a 3-2 lead with an unassisted goal at the 62:35 mark of the second half.
Lowell then tied the game again at the 68:59 mark, his sixth goal of the season, with an assist going to senior forward Cam Christensen (Bismarck, N.D./St. Mary's).
Junior midfielder Paul Keane (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) tallied the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute (71:36), his first of the season, with an assist going to Lowell and Neuburger.
Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Anderson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made three saves to earn his first collegiate victory in relief. Junior goalkeeper Luke Nelson (Caledonia, Minn.) made three saves in the first 45 minutes of the match.
SJU (8-4, 3-3 MIAC) hosts Hamline for a 4 p.m. match this Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Durenberger Field in Collegeville.
