Senior Joe Daly (Owatonna, Minn.) led the Johnnies with a four-day total of 300 (+12) to tie for 29th overall last week at the 2009 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Saint John’s finished eighth out of 36 teams with a four-day total of 1201 (+49).

Daly was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for Division III by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) May 16.

A member of the two-time defending national champion SJU golf team, Daly was a third-team All-American in 2008, as well as an GCAA All-District selection. He was medalist at the MIAC Meet his freshman year, winning MIAC Freshman of the Year honors, and was fifth overall this fall. Daly was named the 2009 College Sporting News Male Student-Athlete of the Year for the MIAC.

An accounting major with a 3.76 GPA, Daly is a three-time Academic All-MIAC honoree and was also named an All-American Scholar in 2008. He is a Regent Scholar, SJU’s top academic scholarship.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
